Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee

Price: £22.90

Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee is a platformer video game developed by Oddworld Inhabitants and published by GT Interactive. Originally released in 1997 for the PlayStation console and MS-DOS/Windows computers, it also had a Game Boy version titled Oddworld Adventures in 1998.

The game follows the story of Abe, a timid Mudokon slave working at the RuptureFarms meat factory. Upon discovering that he and his fellow Mudokons are destined to be turned into a new product, Abe decides to escape and free as many of his enslaved kin as possible. The player controls Abe as he embarks on a dangerous journey to liberate his people.

Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee received widespread praise for its innovative gameplay, impressive art design, and captivating cutscenes. However, it faced criticism for its steep learning curve and the save system that only allowed players to save at specific checkpoints. By December 2012, the game had sold 3.5 million copies globally, making it one of the best-selling PlayStation titles of all time. It was the first entry in the planned five-part Oddworld series, followed by direct sequels Abe’s Exoddus (1998), Munch’s Oddysee (2001), and Stranger’s Wrath (2005). In 2014, a remake titled Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty! was developed by Just Add Water and released.
