Gran Turismo 2 is a racing simulation video game where players take control of an automobile and compete against AI drivers on various race tracks. The game offers two primary modes: Arcade Mode and Simulation Mode (known as Gran Turismo Mode in PAL and Japanese versions). In Arcade Mode, players can freely select the vehicles they want to drive and choose whether or not to enable vehicle damage. In Simulation Mode, players must earn driver’s licenses, purchase cars, and win trophies to unlock new courses and additional content. The game features nearly 650 cars and 27 racing tracks, including rally courses.

While Gran Turismo 2 shares many similarities with its predecessor in terms of gameplay, physics, and graphics, there are some key differences, particularly in vehicle dynamics. One noticeable change is that brakes are now less prone to locking up, reducing the likelihood of the car losing control. The most significant improvements are the expanded number of cars, tracks, and races available in Simulation Mode. Additionally, players now have the option to race in individual events rather than being required to compete in full tournaments, and they can no longer “qualify” for each race before entering.
