Tekken 3 (鉄拳3) is a 1997 fighting game developed and published by Namco. As the third entry in the Tekken series, it was the first game to be built on Namco’s System 12 arcade hardware. The game is set 20 years after Tekken 2 (1995) and introduces a largely new roster of characters, including iconic characters like Jin Kazama, Ling Xiaoyu, and Bryan Fury. Additionally, it introduces a sidestepping mechanic for all characters. Tekken 3 was later ported to the PlayStation in 1998, adding extra content, including a beat ’em up mode known as Tekken Force.

The game was a massive success, both in arcades and on consoles, selling 35,000 arcade units and 8.36 million copies on PlayStation worldwide, making it the fifth best-selling game for the console. Tekken 3 has since been regarded as one of the greatest video games ever created. It was followed by Tekken Tag Tournament in 1999, and its direct sequel, Tekken 4, was released in 2001. The arcade version of Tekken 3 was later included in Tekken 5 on PlayStation 2, and the console port was re-released as part of the PlayStation Classic collection.
