Vagrant Story is a 2000 action role-playing game developed and published by Square for the PlayStation. It was later re-released by Square Enix on the PlayStation Network for PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, and PlayStation Vita. The game was created by the same team behind Final Fantasy Tactics, with Yasumi Matsuno taking on the roles of director, producer, designer, and writer.

Set in the kingdom of Valendia and the ruined city of Leá Monde, the game follows Ashley Riot, a highly skilled agent known as a Riskbreaker. Ashley is tasked with investigating a connection between a cult leader and Duke Bardorba, a high-ranking member of Valendian Parliament. The story unfolds as Ashley is framed for the murder of the duke, and the events of the game take place one week prior to this incident.

What sets Vagrant Story apart from other console action RPGs is its lack of shops and limited interaction with other characters. Instead, the game emphasizes weapon creation and modification, as well as puzzle-solving and strategy elements. Upon release, the game received widespread acclaim from critics, with many considering it one of the greatest video games of all time.
